At least half a million people are estimated to have been killed in the war in Syria Lebanon has handed Syria a former general who served under the ousted regime of Bashar al-Assad, in the first extradition of its kind since his government fell.

He is accused of charges including murder as well as "torture leading to death and crimes of aggression with the aim of inciting civil war and sectarian fighting", it said.

Judicial officials told the BBC that Issa denied the charges during his arrest.
